From my upcoming photo book Black Star: Gye Nyame, “Aunty Maat’s Beads” is a slice of life during my first ever trip to Ghana as a first generation Ghanaian-American. My aunty Maat owns a multitude of bead shops in the capital city of Accra and I was able to accompany her to work as she managed inventory, finances, and her employees at the different locations. This photo is a closer look at one of the many walls of illustrious beads that hang in her store at the Makola Market.
